7 learnings from 7 days at Fifty Digital

“Jose Mourinho appointed as new Roma boss!”. “Lions touring squad announced!”. “Ed Angeli joins Fifty Digital!”. Although the latter didn’t quite receive the same press coverage, I was delighted last week to start working at Fifty Digital as a Producer.

With a summer of sport ahead of us, it’s an amazing time to be joining a sports agency that has already made huge strides in the communications space. With new beginnings come new learnings, and there’s been plenty so far.

1. Fifty Digital has even more going on than I thought. I knew joining an award-winning agency that the client roster and energy levels would be high, but I was still blown away by how much is going on at the agency. Opportunities appear endless and there’s such a buzz around the place with the company going from strength to strength.

2. Intro calls are a great way to virtually onboard. Maybe something that can seem awkward, but all the intro calls I had were a great way to put a name to face, and realise that everyone at the agency is incredibly welcoming. It felt like I had known people a lot longer than one-week. Thank you all for the effort put into these calls

3. Everyone is sport mad. I thought that joining a sports agency would mean the majority of people would enjoy sport, but I didn’t realise quite how much everyone LOVES their sport. Sport is a universal language and with everyone so invested in it, ice breakers aren’t needed at any moment in time.

4. Sharing workload culture. Of course people have their job roles, but it was amazing to see everyone contribute in areas that aren’t necessarily required of them for the overall greater good. There is a real ‘help-a-mate’ culture at Fifty, which I think is hugely important, particularly when not physically together.

5. Six-minute eggs are a great lunch. If you haven’t tried this, six-minute eggs on rye bread is cracking – apologies, it has to be done. The combination of rocket, sriracha and balsamic glaze adds an extra dimension. A great lunch and one that ensures you don’t come back to your desk too full.

6. More than colleagues. This might seem a tad cliche, but you can definitely tell that everyone at Fifty Digital are really good pals. Shout out to Ryan and Adam B who demonstrate this superbly, “One day we will live together and we can work in the same kitchen ?”… a genuine quote, I won’t say from who.

7. Don’t be a stranger. It’s easy to hide when working remotely but the best way to feel part of the team is to get involved. This isn’t to say flood the channels with a “heelllooo, how did you sleep?” every morning, but group slack chats are very active, and getting involved makes you immediately feel part of the team.

To conclude, despite the virtual onboarding, I have felt warmly welcomed to Fifty Digital and can’t wait for my first face-to-face session to meet everyone properly. The summer of sport is going to be huge and I can’t wait to get going with the incredible projects.

Here’s to a great chapter ahead ?
