Travelling Europe in seven days
From Le Mans to Budapest to Misano, it was a crazy week of travelling last week. It felt like the moment I had returned to the UK I was back in the air, jetting off to another destination. But there is nothing like travelling around the world, especially when you get to attend such great race events.
If I’m on holiday, you can normally find me at some race track around the world, unable to avoid the buzz of a car racing on asphalt. The middle of June saw me take the long drive across to France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This year marked the 86th edition of the prestigious endurance event. Having been spoilt for unpredictable racing around the Circuit de la Sarthe over the last two years, with last lap breakdowns and overheating hybrids, this year’s track activities were not as enthralling. However, it was amazing to see Toyota Gazoo Racing finally claim the race victory they rightfully deserved two years ago, and the elation in the Japanese team.
Hopping on a plane the morning after returning from a week’s holiday camping in France, the flight into the beautiful city of Budapest greeted me with brilliant sunshine. For work this time, rather than pleasure, I found myself, for the first time, in a paddock that did not contain race cars. Seeing the Red Bull Air Race in the midst of being set up was an interesting change from the norm for me, and a great back drop to the digital workshop Fifty Digital were hosting for the Air Race pilots and their teams.
I would have loved to see the Red Bull Air Race planes dash under the Chain Bridge, a mere 12m gap, to race over the Danube, but I was back on another plane to Misano in Italy for the third round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup with our client Jack Manchester to assist him with his social media activation. Back in a paddock I know very well, it was a wonderful round up to the week to be trackside and celebrate Jack’s first class win with him. I cannot wait to be off on my next adventure, returning to a new racetrack with Jack Manchester as he takes on his first 24-hour endurance race! Two all-night races in the space of a month!
